A Taste of Poetry: Maya Angelou

The library's poetry group features the poetry of Maya Angelou on Wednesday, February 10 at 1 PM. One group member said: "I love Maya....saw her in person about 5 times.....she was a female James Earl Jones...she could read Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and hold you captivated!" Angelou was a multi-talented poet, author, historian, songwriter, playwright, dancer, stage and screen producer, director, performer, singer and civil rights activist. Her poetry is a joy to read. "January" by John Updike

The days are short,
The sun a spark,
Hung thin between
The dark and dark.

Fat snowy footsteps
Track the floor.
Milk bottles burst
Outside the door.

The river is
A frozen place
Held still beneath
The trees of lace.

The sky is low.
The wind is gray.
The radiator
Purrs all day.
