FAQ

How Do I...

Find answers to the questions most often asked by users -- and potential users -- of the library in this section. If your question isn't answered here, call us at 973-208-6244.

Get a Library Card?

Any Jefferson Township resident or taxpayer may apply for a full service library card, good at Jefferson Twp Library and all other MAIN libraries. We allow for patrons to apply from age 4 & up! A full service card gives you access to check out items, place Holds, access our digital resources, and much more.

1) Stop by the library to apply directly. Please bring proof of residency (i.e. driver's license, utility bill, insurance card with address)

2) Fill out an online application - if approved/verified, you will be issued a library barcode automatically.

Request an item I want?

To request a title online, visit the MAIN catalog. You can scroll through pre-selected categories, or search for the title(s) you want. Items will show if they are on the shelf at our library or if they are available in other MAIN libraries. Login to your account to place a Hold and request an item.

Request an item not Found in MAIN (InterLibrary Loan)?

If the item you are looking for is not in the MAIN catalog, you can place a request for an InterLibrary Loan through JerseyCAT. We will search for the item and let you know if we can obtain it for you to borrow.

Ask a Reference Question?

In addition to books in the library's general and reference collections, you may visit our Research Tools for a list of available databases.

Sandi Duffy, our Reference Librarian, is available at sandi.duffy@jtpl.mainlib.org if you would like to email a question or a request for information.

Donate Used Books, DVDs, or CDs?

We accept donations of books, CDs and DVDs that are in good condition. There is a limit of 1-2 bags or small boxes of donated items, and you must bring them to the front desk during our open hours. We cannot accept encyclopedias, magazines, condensed books, textbooks, records, cassette tapes, videocassettes, or any material in poor condition. Most donated items will go out for resale in our foyer.

Drop off items when you are closed?

We offer book drops as a convenient way for you to return books outside of the library's hours.

There are three book drops at the library. Two are located in front of the library's main entrance -- one for books and one for media. One (for books only) is located near the library's back entrance.

There is also a book drop for our Lake Hopatcong patrons - it is located in front of Adam's Bagels in the Jefferson Diner Shopping center on Route 15.

Request Use of Your Meeting Room?

The library's meeting room is called the Riker Room, and it's maximum capacity is 49 people. The room is available for public use.

Click here to fill out an online application, which must be approved by the Library Director.
