Laptop Borrowing Policy
Purpose
Jefferson Township Public Library strives to provide equal access to information by offering the most current resources available to our patrons
Policy
Laptops are available on a first-come first-serve basis for use by Jefferson Township Public Library patrons and may only be used while inside the library. Patrons wishing to check out a laptop must be a current library cardholder in good standing.
Guidelines
- Patrons 18 years of age and older may borrow a laptop
- Patrons must be in good standing
- Valid, unexpired library card
- Fines not exceeding $10.00
- No overdues
- A patron wishing to borrow a laptop must present the library card with a photo ID at the circulation desk. The patron will complete a Laptop Agreement Form (filled out once and kept on file).
- The laptop will be checked out to the patron’s account for two (2) hours
- Patron can renew the laptop, as long as no other patron is waiting
- One laptop can be checked out to a patron’s account per day
- The laptop will include the charger and mouse
- Staff will not provide technical support for laptop use, the borrower should know how to use the laptop or be able to teach him/herself
- The laptop can only be used inside the library, any laptop that leaves the premises will be considered stolen property and the patron account will be charged accordingly
- The patron may not leave the laptop unattended, and food/drink are not permitted while using the laptop
- The patron agrees to adhere to Jefferson Township Public Library’s Computer Use Policy
- The laptop comes preloaded with MS Office 2019 software which cannot be manipulated or deleted
- Software and other files cannot be downloaded to the laptop, the patron must use a removable device or upload to a cloud server.
- Deepfreeze is installed on each laptop, wiping any files or folders saved on the laptop when it restarts
- The library is not responsible for any computer virus that may transfer to, or from, a user’s device
- Headphones or earbuds are required for any application that has sound
- Headphones are available, at no charge, at the circulation desk
- Laptops must be returned 30 minutes prior to closing, and must be powered on so staff can check for any issues or damages
- The patron assumes responsibility for any damages to the laptop while in their possession
- Charges include:
- Laptop $50.00
- Mouse $15.00
- Charging Cord $10.00
- If the patron notices any malfunctions or malware on the laptop, it is their responsibility to immediately notify a staff member
