Tutoring in the Library
Purpose
Jefferson Township Public Library recognizes the educational benefits to the students and parents in our community of providing space in the library for tutoring. To help ensure the balance between library use for tutoring and library use by other community members, the following policy and procedures are set forth for using the library for tutoring and/or home instruction services.
Scope
This policy and its procedures apply to Tutors and their Tutees, as well as students who are assigned to home instruction services and who are using the library to meet with their tutor.
Policy
In order to ensure a positive learning environment, the Jefferson Township Public Library will provide space in the library for both private tutoring sessions and home instruction services. Tutors and students are expected to adhere to all library policies, including the following tutoring procedures:
Procedures
- The tutor and/or student must be a resident of Jefferson Township.
- Tutors must sign-in at the circulation desk when tutoring.
- Tutors are welcome to use the library during our open hours, sessions must end 10 minutes prior to closing.
- Areas for tutoring are available on a first-come first-serve basis.
- The meeting room cannot be reserved for tutoring.
- All library policies and procedures must be followed by both the tutor and the student.
- The rights of other people using the library must be respected, including maintaining appropriate noise level, using headphones for any software requiring sound, and ensuring the student’s behavior is not disruptive.
- Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- The tutor assumes responsibility for the student’s behavior while in the library.
- The tutor must provide their own supplies. Photocopies and prints are available for a small fee of 10¢ per page.
- Work areas must be cleaned and chairs placed under tables at the end of each session.
- Library staff are not responsible for any personal items left by either the tutor or student.
- Inappropriate or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and may result in the loss of tutoring privileges at the library.
The library reserves the right to restrict or ban tutoring in the event that policies are not followed or if the tutoring sessions continuously interrupt other patrons or library staff.
